Bio Action

Traditionally, there has been a variety of organic media types used in biofiltration such as bark, woodchips and green waste, all of which are problematic. Rapid and irregular decomposition of traditional organic media result in compaction which reduces airflow and increases backpressure or develops preferential pathways, creating venting of the airstream. High maintenance & replenishment costs limit their commercial viability regardless of their base costs.

The Bioaction Biomedia™ is significant advancement in organic media:

  • Robust - resists biological, chemical and mechanical degradation
  • Even diffusion – homogeneous structure with high “air-filled porosity”
  • High water holding capacity – large surface area (6000 m2/ltr) & excellent capillary action
  • Free draining – open and porous structure will not bind water to become wet
  • Biological host – surface area, moisture retention and thermal buffering optimises microbial colonization
  • Resists compaction – increases bed depth and reduces footprint
