Traditionally, there has been a variety of organic media types used in biofiltration such as bark, woodchips and green waste, all of which are problematic. Rapid and irregular decomposition of traditional organic media result in compaction which reduces airflow and increases backpressure or develops preferential pathways, creating venting of the airstream. High maintenance & replenishment costs limit their commercial viability regardless of their base costs.
The Bioaction Biomedia™ is significant advancement in organic media:

Bioaction have partnered with the Environmental Biotechnology Cooperative Research Centre (EBCRC) in the application of their modified Zeolite. This amendment is incorporated with the Bioaction Biomedia to biologically modify it to the specific odour or contaminate airstream.
